Privacy Policy
What we collect, and what we do with it.
Written in plain language on purpose. If a policy is written so nobody reads it, it isn't really telling you anything.
Last updated: October 23, 2026
The short version
We collect what you give us and what an ordinary website records. We use it to do the work you asked for and to talk to you about it. We don't sell it, we don't trade it, and we don't add you to lists you didn't ask for. If you want your information removed, tell us and it's removed.
The rest of this page is the detail behind those sentences.
What we collect
When you request a competitor analysis. Your website, the market you serve, the competitors you name, what you're trying to grow, whether you'd want help acting on the findings, and your email address. We ask for these because we cannot build the analysis without them.
When you subscribe to the blog. Your email address. Nothing else.
When you book a call. Whatever you enter in the scheduling tool, which is a third-party service with its own policy.
When you email us or send a message through the contact page. Your name, your email address, and whatever you write.
When you simply visit. Standard analytics: pages viewed, roughly where you are, what brought you here, and what browser you used. This is aggregate. We are not trying to work out who you personally are from it.
What we do with it
We use what you give us to do the specific thing you asked for. Build the analysis. Send the posts. Reply to your email. Show up to the call.
We use the analytics to understand which pages are useful and which aren't.
We don't sell your information. We don't rent it, trade it, or hand it to data brokers. We don't use it to build advertising profiles, and we don't add you to a mailing list because you filled in an unrelated form.
If you request a competitor analysis, you are not thereby subscribed to anything.
Who else sees it
A small number of service providers process information on our behalf, because that is how a modern website works. Hosting and site analytics, email delivery, the scheduling tool, the system we use to keep track of conversations, and, on our ad landing pages, Meta and Microsoft. Each of them handles the data only to provide that service to us.
Beyond that, we share information in two situations. If the law requires it. And if we ever sell or merge the business, in which case whoever takes it on inherits the same obligations described here.
Your competitive information is not shared with anyone. The market, the competitors, the analysis we build for you. That stays between us.
How long we keep it
Client records for as long as we work together, and for a period afterward for tax and contractual reasons.
Analysis requests that don't become engagements, for about a year, so we recognize you if you come back.
Blog subscribers until you unsubscribe.
Analytics on whatever schedule the analytics provider uses.
If you want it gone sooner than any of that, ask. We'd rather delete it than argue about it.
What you can ask for
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or ask us to stop emailing you. You can do all of that through our contact page and you don't need a reason.
Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA. We'll honor those requests whether or not a particular law applies to you, because keeping two standards would be more work than just doing it.
Every email we send has an unsubscribe link. It works immediately.
Cookies
This site uses cookies for the things a site needs them for: keeping the site working, and understanding which pages get read. You can block or delete them in your browser settings, and the site will still work.
Most of this site runs no advertising trackers. The exception is the small set of landing pages our ads point to. Those pages use the Meta Pixel, which tells Meta when someone visits the page or sends its form, so we can measure whether our ads on Facebook and Instagram are working. They also use Microsoft Clarity, which records how visitors scroll and click, so we can see where a page is confusing. You can block both with your browser settings or a content blocker, and the pages will still work.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect what we hold, and we keep very little that would be worth stealing. We don't collect payment card details on this site, we don't ask for government identifiers, and we don't have a customer login.
No one can promise perfect security. Anyone who does is selling something.
Children
This is a business-to-business site and it isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under thirteen.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top. If it changes in a way that affects how we handle information you already gave us, we'll tell you directly.
Questions about any of this?
Send us a message and a person will answer. Ask us to delete something and we'll confirm when it's done.
