Answer engine optimization (AEO) services

Answer engine optimization that starts with what your business already knows.

Hudson South's answer engine optimization service researches the questions your buyers ask before they hire, writes the answers in your voice, and publishes them on your site as pages built to be quoted. It runs as a 30 to 60 day project or as a monthly retainer. No one can promise that an assistant will name your business, and we don't; the work gives it accurate, specific answers to draw from.

If you suspect AEO is SEO with a new label, you're half right. The foundation is shared, and plenty of what gets sold as AEO is the old work with new headings. What follows is what our version actually produces, how it runs, what Google and the AI platforms document, how results are measured, and when AEO is the wrong first purchase.

The deliverable

Published answers, not a strategy deck.

The service produces pages and posts that answer one real buyer question each, with a clear answer near the top and the evidence and named expertise beside it.

Most business websites describe services in the abstract. What the company offers. How long it has been around. Why it cares. Buyers ask something narrower: what a job costs, how long it takes, whether the company handles their situation.

A service list is a sign on the side of the truck.

When someone types a full question into ChatGPT or Google's AI Mode, the tool can only quote what a page actually says. A sign tells people you exist, not whether you can solve their problem, and a page that only lists services leaves the tool nothing of yours to use.

We call each finished piece an answer asset. Depending on what your buyers ask, that means service pages rewritten answer first, single-question pages, city pages with researched local detail, and articles. Each one carries named expertise and specifics a reader can check, plus structured data that matches the text a visitor actually sees. You review every piece, and we publish it on your site.

How the work runs

The same four steps, in the same order, on every engagement.

The steps are the reason the answers sound like your business and say things only your business can say. The full walkthrough lives on how our four-step process works; here is what each step contributes to answer engine optimization.

  1. 01

    Authority Asset

We record the expertise your team uses every day that your website does not show: how you scope a job, what you check first, what you tell a nervous customer about cost. Those details are what make an answer worth quoting, because a writer should not have to invent what your business already knows. The output is a written record that every later page draws from.

  2. 02

    Hudson Twenty-One

We measure how your business communicates across 21 dimensions, from sentence rhythm to how you handle an objection. The Hudson Twenty-One profile keeps the answers in your voice instead of the flat register most AI-assisted writing falls into, and it is yours to keep.

  3. 03

    Market Intelligence

We research what buyers in your market ask, what competitors have already answered, and what nobody has covered. The output is a map of questions in priority order, so the first pages published answer the highest-priority questions.

  4. 04

    AEO Creation

We write and publish the answers: clear answers near the top, specific evidence, named expertise, and the technical setup that helps a machine understand what it is reading. Every factual claim is checked against a primary source before it reaches you for review.

What the platforms document

There is no secret markup. There is access, and there is substance.

Google's guidance on AI features and your website says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode and no special optimizations necessary. A page needs to be indexed and eligible to be shown in Google Search with a snippet, the usual SEO best practices still apply, and no special schema markup is needed.

That is worth knowing before you sign anything. Plenty of AEO pitches imply a technical trick, and the platform that runs AI Overviews says there isn't one.

OpenAI's crawler documentation draws a similar line for ChatGPT. OAI-SearchBot is the crawler that surfaces websites in ChatGPT's search features, and OpenAI says sites opted out of it will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers, though OpenAI notes they can still show up as plain links. Perplexity recommends allowing PerplexityBot for sites that want to appear in its search results. So the first practical check is whether your own site lets those crawlers in. A robots.txt file written years ago with a broad block rule can turn them away without anyone meaning to.

Access gets you in the building. It doesn't get you picked.

After access, the work is substance. Ask your team one plain question: which questions do we answer on every sales call that our website never answers? The list that comes back is the kind of knowledge the Authority Asset step records, and no tool can generate it for you. What AEO means as a practice, and what it cannot promise, is covered in our explainer on answer engine optimization. If nobody writes that list down, there is nothing of yours for any tool to find.

Measurement

How you will know whether it is working.

No single number tells the whole story, so it helps to watch three kinds of evidence and keep them separate.

What we look atWhere it comes fromWhat it tells you
What AI tools say for a fixed question setThe visibility report included with monthly plans, run across AI platformsWhether your business appears, and how it is described, for the questions you care about most
Search impressions and clicksGoogle Search Console, where Google counts traffic from its AI features inside the Performance report under the Web search typeWhether the published pages are being shown and visited
Calls, forms and booked workYour own intake recordsWhether the visibility turned into business

Monthly plans include the visibility report on a defined question set, with competitor comparison on larger plans. A fictional example shows why the question set matters: a roofing company in Raleigh that tracks only "best roofer near me" learns little, while one that also tracks "does insurance cover hail damage on a 15-year-old roof" can see whether it appears in the answer to that question. A question set built on vanity searches tells you nothing about the jobs you actually want.

Ways to buy it

A project with an end date, or a retainer that keeps publishing.

Both run the same four steps. You are not choosing between a one-time fix and a commitment you can't get out of; the difference is whether the work finishes or keeps going. Every detail of both engagements is on the AI search content service page.

  • Project: 30 to 60 days

All four steps run end to end, then the work is finished. Pages are produced and published, not handed over as drafts, and you keep everything, including your Twenty-One profile. Fixed fee agreed before anything starts, beginning at $9,500. Market exclusivity is not part of a project.

  • Retainer: every week, month to month

Content is researched, written and published every week from the first month, with about 30 minutes a month of your review time on smaller plans. Plans start at $1,500 a month with no setup fees. Market exclusivity comes with most monthly plans; your proposal confirms it and names the trade and the area.

One business per trade per market. We define the market with you, based on where you actually serve: usually the region for businesses that work across a metro, such as roofing, HVAC or a law practice, and a single city for businesses with a tight local radius, such as a dental office. How market exclusivity works.

Starting prices are on the pricing page.

An honest filter

When AEO is the wrong first purchase.

Answer-first content assumes the basics are in place. If search engines struggle to reach or index your site, or your robots.txt turns away the crawlers that power AI search, new pages will sit where no tool reads them. Fix the foundation first; our AI SEO page covers what that foundation includes and how to check it yourself.

A second case: AI tools already mention your business but describe it wrongly, with old services, the wrong service area, or a competitor's specialty attached to your name. That is less a question-answering problem than a consistency problem, and it is what generative engine optimization addresses.

So the real question is not which label to buy. It is what to fix first. Some businesses need all three, and if you are not sure which fits, the free analysis call is the place to start. Buy them in the wrong order and you pay to publish pages nobody can find.

Questions

Questions about answer engine optimization

Is answer engine optimization a separate service from AI search content?

No. AEO is the method behind our AI search content work, named for the term many buyers search for. The engagement options, deliverables and terms are the same; this page explains the AEO side of the work in particular.

Will this get our business into Google's AI Overviews or ChatGPT?

We cannot promise that, and no honest provider can. Google says a page needs to be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet to appear as a supporting link, and OpenAI says sites must allow its search crawler to appear in ChatGPT search answers. The pages we publish give the tools accurate, specific answers to use; whether a page is indexed is Google's decision, and crawler access is set in your robots.txt.

Do we have to write anything ourselves?

No. We research, write and publish. Your part is the knowledge only your team has, gathered in the Authority Asset step, and reviewing pages before they go live. In regulated fields such as law, health care and financial services, the licensed professional or your compliance staff approves what is published.

Does AEO replace our existing SEO work?

Usually not. Google says SEO best practices still apply to its AI features, so the two overlap. If your current provider handles technical SEO well, answer-first content builds on that foundation rather than competing with it.
